ABW – Past, Present and Future:

ABW (AutoBodyWorks) was established in 1989 by Daren Bezant. Beginning with simple paintwork repairs mainly for trade customers the business soon expanded to light accident repairs and respray’s.
Before long heavier damaged vehicles were being repaired and a full chassis alignment jig and measuring system installed. After repairing numerous vehicles for a local salvage firm they started dealing themselves in repairable salvage vehicles. Another company importing cars from Japan employed their services to repair and refinish numerous Japanese marque’s and from there the love affair with everything Subaru began.
Starting off as the main UK distributor for Chargespeed bodykit’s they built up a very loyal customer base and started to get some good feedback and input as to what was missing from the Subaru styling market.
After employing the services of a very experienced local mould maker they set about creating some unique WRC inspired bodykits for all years of Impreza. Starting with the ever popular Classic they made a full wide arch kit which kept the same lines but widened the car by around 25mm each side to accommodate wider rims and improve the stance.
Following on from that was the 2001 bugeye Impreza which too was given the ABW treatment. This time they attempted a replica of the world championship winning works WRC car. Producing front wings, rear arches, front bumper, extra bonnet vent and a foglamp pod, the fitted kit looks as close to the real thing as you’ll get without the £300k price tag.
Next on Subaru’s list was their 2003 Blobeye Impreza another model year which ABW gave the replica WRC look to their bodykit. Again consisting of front wings front bumper, rear arches and an extra bonnet vent.
The final model year to get the ABW WRC replica treatment was the 2006 Hawkeye. In true ABW style the easy option was not an option and they proceeded to make this rally replica using all steel panels which were widened and reshaped to again give an almost perfect version of the works car.
This Hawkeye is the current Showcar for ABW which has already been dismantled and moulds taken to produce the kit in fibreglass.
So to the present and into the future what’s in the pipeline for ABW. There’s one last model of WRC car the 2008 which, as you would expect, is already in the pipeline. In addition to that, again after listening to their customers, ABW are producing a full range of Time attack inspired bodykit’s and styling parts.
So if you have an idea for anything Subaru let them know and you never know your ideas could be on the next ABW car or even gracing the cars of the Big Guns in Time attack
